An Education

So i just watched this 2009 British coming of age film. Its had some hype i feel, especially among female young 'intellectuals' who im sure see themselves in the protagonist Jenny's shoes. Carey Mulligan, playing the leading role of Jenny was nominated for a slew of awards, including an oscar for best actress. Jenny is a smart 17 year old hopeful to get into Oxford in 1961. She meets David, a much older man, and so the plot continues. I'm such a sucker for movies with good soundtracks, this one scattered with 1960's female french vocalists. Mulligan is so likable and is capturing in her performance, while underlying the movie is a layer of subtle wit and ridicule - her parents were fphenominal creations. Such a parallel to Notes on a Scandal kind of, but from the other end and with far more humour and carefree. Also screenplay written by Nick Hornby. I want to read another book by him some time soon..
